The Junior Livestock Department of the Viola Horse and Colt Show is open to any boy or girl exhibitor who has raised and kept records during the present project year on an animal or animals shown. Livestock must be shown by the exhibitor. Only reasonable exceptions will be made, and these in advance. Only contestants and judges will be allowed in the ring during judging.

Judging will be on the Danish system.

Deadline for entries is seven days prior to the Friday of the show.

Classes will be divided based on the number of entrants.

CLASS DEFINITIONS – DAIRY CATTLE

(a) A spring calf is one born on or after March 1 of the exhibit year and is at least 4 months old at the time of exhibit.

(b) A winter calf is one born between December 1 of the year preceding the exhibit year and February 28 or 29 of the exhibit year.

(c) A fall calf is one whose date of birth is between September 1 and November 30 of the year preceding the exhibit year.

(d) A summer yearling is one whose date of birth is between June 1 and August 31 of the year preceding the exhibit year.

(e) A spring yearling is one whose date of birth is between March 1 and May 31 of the year preceding the exhibit year.

(f) A winter yearling is one whose date of birth is between December 1 of the second year preceding the exhibit year and February 28 or 29 of the year preceding the exhibit year.

(g) A fall yearling is one whose date of birth is between September 1 and November 30 of the second year preceding the exhibit year.

(h) A 2 year old is one whose date of birth is between September 1 of the third year pre ceding the exhibit year and August 31 of the second year preceding the exhibit year, and shall include any yearlings which have freshened.

(i) A 3 year old is one whose date of birth is between September 1 of the fourth year preceding the exhibit year and August 31 of the third year preceding the exhibit year

(j) A 4 year old is one whose date of birth is between September 1 of the fifth year preceding the exhibit year and August 31 of the fourth year preceding the exhibit year.

Age Eligibility: Grades 3-13 as of January 1 of the current year

Tina Tot Shaowmanship – Kindergarten to 2nd grade (spring calf only)

Exhibitors need to wear white pants

Exhibitors needs to be the sole lead person at all times

There will be a K-2 Sping Calf Class in each bread. First place animals we be able to compete for Junior Champion. All othe classes reserved for grades 3-13 only.

These awards will be given to the winners of the Beginner, Intermediate and Senior Cattle Showmanship Contest.

JUNIOR BEEF DIVISION – Class B

Goats must be in place at 8am.

Only one entry per class of the same breed per exhibitor. List animal Scrapie number and Flock number on entry blank.

JUNIOR SHEEP DIVISION – Class S

Premiums of $4.00, $2.00 and $1.00 paid in each class.

Sheep must be in place at 8am. Shows starts at 9am.

Only one entry per class of the same breed per exhibitor. List animal Scrapie number and Flock number on entry blank.
